THR hits us like a bloodstained hurricane:
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group is in final negotiations to acquire the Woody Harrelson starrer “Defendor” out of the Toronto International Film Festival.
The company is set to buy all worldwide rights to the film except Canada, where the film is being released by Alliance.
Peter Stebbings’ movie stars Harrelson as a man who is under the delusion that he is a superhero and sets out on a series of adventures to protect a crime-beset city. Kat Dennings and Sandra Oh also star.
With original superhero movies such as Hancock and the oldie but goody, Blankman, (which this plot seems to have a sprinkling of) we are in the midst of Superhero mania. The question is, can we be burned out with all the Suped up comic movies and brand new originals? Or is this what we’ve all been waiting for? Finally they can make comic books into movies with the technology to bring the badass with amazing CG and big name actors. They are finally taking these films seriously for us NB’s. Woody Harrelson is picking up some good heat, with this news plus the release of his hilarious looking role in Zombieland!!
Next up. Oscars for Comic films. Return of the King has paved the way for fantasy, let the new era begin!!
