2012 the film has come and gone. But the end of the world as we know it in the form of Avatar is on the horizon and frankly, I don’t know what to think. The Hollywood Reporter:

‘Avatar’ Los Angeles premiere date

If you can’t afford to make it to the world premiere of “Avatar” in London, which takes place December 10, you may be happy to know that James Cameron and 20th Century Fox are having a premiere stateside, in Los Angeles.

Mark your calendars for December 16. The Chinese Theater is the setting.

And in case you haven’t heard, the movie is 150 minutes (two and a half hours) long.

Now here is my case. This movie sometime back was developing a cult following. It was THE buzz online and in movie news. It was the messiah of movie to usher in a new era of films and the way we watch them and feel about them….

Then they showed a preview.

BAM! Like that all you Benedict Arnolds out there started tearing into this poor film like a fat girl at an all you can eat dessert buffet. I am fearful for the film, yes, but I am reserving judgment for when I see it. I will NOT make fun of a movie I haven’t seen yet. I will say James Cameron has been talking a lot of hype about this movie now for years, and it is his visage. The movie he’s been WAITING to make and now with all this technology he can finally do it!!!! But people are saying it is too cartoony, perhaps too goofy? Too Gungan? What is it about Avatar that is making it the biggest joke in film, dethroning the former champ, Waterworld. Also, I believe Rollingstone Magazine has jumped the gun WAY AHEAD of time and called Avatar the video game one of the Top 10 of the year. Yikes. I don’t think very many adapted games have been any good at all, what comes to mind? Hmm…Ah, Iron Man, Spiderman, The Lord of the Rings and the worst, King Kong.

Avatar has some cool robot effects mimicking James Cameron’s loaders from Aliens, and some of the battle sequences look decent, but my opinion is that people are just ripping on the Navi so much, that this movie may tank before it gets out of its wheelchair.
