Edgar Wright to Get Back on Ant-Man?

It seems like 2000’s have been an ode to the blockbuster comic book movie. We received such greats as The Dark Knight and Iron Man. Though we also got some pretty ass clown attempts at comic book blockbusters like Daredevil and Ghost Rider (not trying to separate these from the other not so hot flicks…or am I?).

Now the 2010’s seems like an ode to the lesser known comic book movie characters or better known as, “the studios are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find the next cash cow.” Saying that, without all those big time comic movies we probably never would have seen the rein of movies like Kick-Ass or Scott Pilgrim. It just goes to show you that if you put a great director and cast together they can make something great like a potential Ant-Man movie.

Ant-Man has always had large presence in the Marvel universe. He was an original avenger and has dealt with some pretty rough shit. But that is not the Ant-Man we are talking about today. Edger Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and more recently Scott Pilgrim) signed on awhile back to write the screenplay and direct this film.

Marvel president Kevin Feige was quoted saying this about the upcoming production of the Ant-Man movie:

“Edgar was in L.A. last week, we sat down, and we started working on a calendar of when to get him back into it once he finishes promoting ‘Scott Pilgrim,’ so I think towards the end of this year, early next year we’d start looking at early prep for that, but certainly for a release date after The Avengers.”

Ant-Man Story: Scott Lang, ex-con and electronics extraordinaire get released from prison to find himself getting a job at STARK enterprises. When his daughter gets  ill, He decides to go back to his old ways in desperation. After breaking into the home of Dr. Henry Pym (original Ant-Man) and stole his super powered property to find the single person that could help his daughter.

Based on the facts and continuity that nerds everywhere know this is not the original origin story of the first Ant-Man. And as usual the masses will complain but that will never stop the studios. Try to look past all that and realize that directing with probably be top notch, the witty banter will keep you spitting one liners at your friends for months and star studded Marvel hero cameos with be laced throughout this entire piece. (these are just guesses don’t hold me to any of this haha)
