DVD Tuesday: Uhm…What Movies Came Out Today?

It’s a new month and another Tuesday and we get… nothing really. The releases will probably pick up soon but as for this week, we’ll have the usual BUY, RENT, PASS but don’t expect much from it, and I really mean that. We’ll have the Old Stuff Is New Again list as well as the Anime Pick Of The Week. Also, today. we’.. have the debut of the TV Show DVD’s Worth Checking Out list. In all seriousness though, I could have just done an all anime DVD Tuesday since there were many anime DVD release today but thought that wouldn’t be a good idea. Well, check after the jump to see what’s coming out.

Sorry folks, there was nothing worth Buying or Renting as far as new movies goes as really, only one thing came out. We do have a PASS but also check out the Old Movies Are New Again, Anime Pick of the Week, and check out the debut of the new TV Show DVD Worth Checking Out.

Tooth Fairy

Derek Thompson is a hard-charging hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster’s dreams, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek “can’t handle the tooth” – bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers’ homes…doing what tooth fairies do. But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position, he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams.

Starring: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, Stephen Merchant, Billy Crystal, and Ryan Sheckler.
Director: Michael Lembeck (The Santa Clause 2 & 3)

Hey! It’s another film that has The Rock in it, what kind of action does he do in it? Wait, there is no action and he dresses up in a tutu. Yes folks, not even the charm of one Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson couldn’t save this movie. The movie may be worth a rent for a young child (Ten years old or younger) but for most of us, it can just be a PASS as we all wait for the next action film he’ll be in…or the Johnny Quest movie.

Available: Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy, DVD

Old Movies Are New Again: This is a list of old films being re-released as Blu-Ray that were worth a mention. The pick for this week is Saving Private Ryan.

TV Show DVD’s Worth Checking Out

Doctor Who: The Curse of Peladon (Story 61)

The Doctor and Jo make a test flight in the TARDIS and arrive on the planet Peladon. Seeking shelter, they enter the citadel of the soon-to-be-crowned King Peladon, where the Doctor is mistaken for a human dignitary summoned to act as Chairman of a committee assessing an application by the planet to join the Galactic Federation.

Doctor Who: The Monster of Peladon (Story 73)

The Doctor returns to Peladon fifty years after his last visit, finding Queen Thalira, daughter of the late King Peladon, on the throne. A tense labor dispute between Pel nobility and miners is worsened when apparitions of their deity Aggedor attack and kill several miners. The Galactic Federation desperately needs Trisilicate for its war against Galaxy 5, and sends in brutual Ice Warrior troopers to ensure production. The Doctor discovers a devious plot at the heart of Aggedor’s appearances.

Doctor Who: The Mask of Mandragora (Story 86)

An encounter with the living energy structure known as the Mandragora Helix leads the TARDIS to 15th century Italy. Between palace intrigue, the machinations of a sinister cult and a rogue fragment of Helix energy, the Fourth Doctor and Sarah have their hands full. There is not much time, for when Mandragora swallows the Moon, it will be time to strike.

Each DVD has all the episodes of the story in one nice DVD and each comes packed with DVD extra goodness such as commentary, extra features, PDF materials, and more. For a huge, this may all be worth the buy while casual fans should check out these classic episodes.

Anime Pick Of The Week

Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box Z 3

Why is this on the list you asked since these episodes haven been released before. Well, folks, this is the Dragon Box footage, which means, completely remastered and restored picture and audio. The other reason why I put this up is because this box contains the episode when Goku finally transformed into the legendary Super Saiyan. Other notable episodes is the debut of Future Trunks and the greatest filler episode ever, Goku and Piccolo trying to get their drivers license, which makes up the Garlic Jr. Saga that is included in the box set.

Available: 6 Disk Box Set
