Edge of Darkness

Edge of Darkness is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, twenty-four year-old Emma, is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter’s secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous, looking glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder – and to shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh, who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven’s solitary search for answers about his daughter’s death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption.

Starring: Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts, Bojana Novakovic, Frank Grillo, and Gbenga Akinnagbe
Directed By: Martin Campbell (Golden Eye, Casino Royale,  Upcoming Green Lantern film)

Say what you want about Mel Gibson, the man can act when he wants to. Although the story may not be too original, it’s still worth the rental as Gibson provides enough entertainment for this suspenseful thriller.

It’s been awhile since we had one of these and what I mean is that this is one of those films where you and your friends get some drinks and enjoy the action of the film. The story may be a bit interesting for a few of you but all the mindless gun fighting scenes and an Archangel fight may be worth rent. Also, check out our review of the film as well.

Old Movies Are New Again: This is a list of old films being re-released as Blu-Ray that were worth a mention. The pick for this week is the Maginificent Seven Collection, where all four movies in one convenient Blu-ray disk.

TV Show DVD Worth Checking Out

Daria: The Complete Animated Series

The people of Lawndale just don’t get Daria Morgendorffer. She’s cool with that. See, Daria was born alienated, and now she’s just trying to make it through high school with as little human contact as possible. Popularity, friends, activities… whatever. Daria lacks enthusiasm, but she makes up for it with sarcasm.

Anyone remember when MTV had its own set of cartoons that were more for older teens and were awesome. Well, here is one of the classics and if you were a fan of Daria, this is a must have. The set comes with all 65 episodes and the two films. Not to mention, it has its share of extras that should make any fan satisfied.

Available: 8 Disk DVD Set

Deadliest Warriors: Season One

Finally, Spike’s newest hit show, Deadliest Warrior, has arrived on DVD! Watch as the most feared warriors civilization has ever known are pitted against each other in battle. Using 21st century science and the latest in CGI technology, each episode enlists warrior-specific world-class fighters and experts to analyze every facet of their unique skills of destruction and to answer the all-important question: who is the deadliest warrior?

If there was one show worth checking out on Spike TV, this is it. It’s pretty much a nerd debate each episode where they have a certain type of warrior facing off against another. After showing demos for the range of fighting styles, they calculate who would win. Now and then, they do face-offs with specific warriors, like the William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu episode. With season 2 already airing, it was just a matter of time for season 1 coming out to buy. You get all nine episodes from season one in 3 disks.

Available: 3 Disk DVD Set
