Heavy Rain…The Movie?

We here at Nerdbastards love to keep you up to date on all the latest bad ideas from Hollywood (within the Nerd realm). The most recent is the talk of making the cinematic and evolving thriller from Quantic Dream, Heavy Rain into a feature film. For those of you who haven’t played the game (all 5 of you) it follows 4 playable main characters who are all on individual unique missions to catch the Origami Killer. It proposes the question “How far would you go to save the one you love?”  It appears that the ending of the bid war is upon us and Unique Features may be the lucky duck. They are hoping to be backed (funded) by Warner Brothers.  Upon first hearing this information I was excited, then it occurred to me, the thing that makes Heavy Rain so amazing is the possibilities.  It’s such a ground breaking game with the way it is presented I just don’t think it will translate to a movie. It will end up being just another dramatic father saves son film.  Hell on the first run through of Heavy Rain I killed EVERYONE.   Turning this game into a movie takes away the connection to the characters, the fact that knowing the choices YOU make will effect the ending no matter how small they seem at the time. There is no way to properly present this  as a movie unless it’s a 5 hour film that shows every possible outcome. However that’s just my opinion, so let me know in the comments how you feel about a potential Heavy Rain movie. Feel free to tell my why I’m wrong. 😀
