Not many directors have a penchant for bloody violence and and balls to the walls action like Robert Rodriguez does. Like it even needs to be said, this is the man behind Grindhouse (Planet Terror), Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Sin City, to name a few. While, Jon Stewart is our most important Jew Robert Rodriguez is our most important director. So, it makes sense that this man…no god, would be on the forefront of every out of this world type picture. And while this master of filmography has been teasing our cocks and twats (gotta mention the ladies) with Sin City 2 and and a Red Sonja remake (both in developmental limbo) he has apparently been offered the director chair for X-Men Origins: Wolverine spinoff ‘Deadpool’. Wha, wha, what???

‘Deadpool’ has been on the studios agenda for over a year. The plan was to release a spinoff movie of Ryan Reynolds take on the “Merc with a Mouth” from FOXs X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But, just as FOX was narrowing screenwriting pitches down to two or three writers, Reynolds signed on to star in Green Lantern for Warner Bros., which threw a massive wrench in the developmental gears. Though, this past January, Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were hired to write a first draft. Now, while Reynolds, who is still under contract for the role, is finishing up Green Lantern the only missing piece to the Deadpool puzzle is who would direct? Well, according to sources close to the project Robert Rodriguez has been offered the gig. Being that FOX previous offered him a director chair for the Planet of the Apes prequel, which he declined, and that he also produced the soon to be release Predators, they obvious are in good standings with him and want his vision with these types of properties.
While we await offical word on this let us ponder on whether this is a good thing. Ya, the immediate thought is “FUCK YA” but heres the thing. FOX will not release an R rated superhero movie. Which this really needs to be. They want money and limiting the film to a smaller adult audience just isn’t economical for them. Sure, Rodriguez can constrain himself in PG form. After all, he did also do the Spy Kids movies but for this property and knowing his talents you just can’t cage this beast. Not to mention the fact that FOX is behind this. Christ, they nearly ruined the superhero movie franchise with the Fantastic Four movies, X-Men 3 and Wolverine Origins. All terrible (feel free to debate). Though, being the Zombieland writers were tapped to write a script and if Ryan Reynolds stays involved this could potetially be FOXs most promising superhero movie to date. Eh, it’s a tough thing to call. What do you think?
