You know those times when someone recommends a book and you say “I’ll just wait for the movie”? Well, that philosophy might just apply to Robert Schwentke‘s ‘Red‘, which adapts Warren Ellis‘ graphic novel about a group of retired CIA agents.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about the comic and it’s been in my list of things to read, but with my plate being as full as it is I may just skip the read and wait for the movie. And, after watching the trailer for Red that may not be a bad thing.
It features Oscar-Winning actors with machine guns. How could it be bad?
Here’s the official synopsis:
Frank, Joe, Marvin, and Victoria used to be the CIA’s top agents — but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.
Utterly fucked-out premise not withstanding, ‘Red’ actually looks fun as hell. Of course I say that now. I’m betting that if I get to reading the comic before the movie is released I’ll be screaming that it’s a dis-service to comics.
Summit will open Red, which stars Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Ernest Borgnine, Julian McMahon, and James Remar on October 15.
