While most live action adaptation of anime haven’t been too successful, such as Dragonball Evolution and Devilman, we do get a few decent ones, like Speed Racer and Death Note. Space Battleship Yamato, which was dubbed as Star Blazers back in the day over here in the US, is so far looking meh in the acting department. While they are going around saying that this will be Japan’s biggest Sci-fi movie by using the most up to date computer technology to recreate the awesome space battles the anime had, the special effects does indeed look good.
With the pretty good looking special effects and having Tsutomu Yamazaki (Tampopo) as Captain Juzo Okita, as well as Kazuki Kitamura (Godzilla: Final Wars) as Dessler, I do have some hope for the film. Of course, this film will do well in Japan because of Takuya Kimura, who plays the role of Susumu Kodai, since he is the well known pretty boy of SMAP. The film is set for a December 1st, 2010 release. What do ya’ll think? Is this a step up from the usual live action anime film or will this fail like the rest?
