The current king of gross-out gold at the box office is rumored to be producing one of Pee-Wee Herman’s upcoming movies. I KNOW YOU ARE, BUT WHAT AM I? Infinity.
Judd Apatow — the guy behind Superbad, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and “Freaks and Geeks” — won’t write the movie about everyone’s favorite happy, creepy guy in a suit, but Apatow Prods. will serve as producer.
“Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-wee Herman,” Apatow told Daily Variety. “I am so excited to be working with Paul Reubens — who is an extraordinary and ground-breaking actor and writer. It’s so great to watch him return with such relevance.” — Variety
There are rumored to be two Pee-Wee movies coming up — one for adults and one for kids. Which will Apatow produce? My money is on the adult flick, but who knows yet?
Paul Reubens, a stand-up comedy and minor movie character veteran, created the Pee-Wee character years ago and had hits with the long-running “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse,” Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and Big Top Pee-Wee. After being arrested for jerking it in an adult theatre in the 1990s, Reubens laid low until coming back with Mystery Men.
Weird TV and movie cameos continued, and he distanced himself from the Pee-Wee character until recently. Reubens is having a bit of a renaissance now with “The Pee-Wee Herman Show”, a comedy gig that’s in high demand in Los Angeles.
