“Avengers Assemble”… not so fast! In an interesting turn of events it has been reported that Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as the Jolly Green Giant…Errr I mean the Incredible Hulk in Marvels live action film adaption of “The Avengers“. We shouldn’t have to explain, because you folks are “nerds” and should know this stuff, but the Avengers are an elite team, comprised of earths mightiest superheroes (Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Iron Man and The Hulk) , assembled by secret defense Group “Shield” to fight against the worlds biggest threats. It’s been Marvel Studios’ master plan to link their heroes from indepentend films, eventually leading to their most anticipated film of all “The Avengers”. And while the main Avengers Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) are all confirmed, Edward Norton’s return as Bruce Banner, The Incredible Hulk, has been a mystery… until today.
Marvel Studios’ has now confirmed that it is moving forward with development of ’The Avengers,” and the studio has decided not to cast Edward Norton in the key role of Bruce Banner.Marvel Studios
President of Production Kevin Feige forwarded the following exclusively to HitFix:
”We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. ‘The Avengers’ demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Sam Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”
Given Edward Norton’s notoriety of being a difficult actor to work with this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s not like Norton is a asshole or anything. He’s supposedly a really nice guy, but he’s a very passionate actor that cares a little too much about his projects. He’s always (reportedly) over stepping his bounds by being a back seat director/creative. Marvel, quite frankly doesn’t want to put up with it. Especially given the supposed in fighting they had on development of ‘The Hulk’. They, collaboratively just can’t work with him. The bigger shock here is that Marvel actually released this statement. It takes balls to call an actor out on their shennigans.
The Avengers supposedly begins production February 2011 with the Hulk as a character, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) confirmed, and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Nathan Fillion (Ant-Man), and Eva Longoria (Wasp) rumored. The film hits theaters May 4, 2012
