I decided to post this story after this week’s new episode of True Blood, because it is just that amazing.
NOTE: THIS ARTICLE COULD CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 OF TRUE BLOOD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
In the True Blood panel held during San Diego Comic-Con, the creator of the TV series of True mention that he is very excited to introduce the character known as “Bubba.”
For those who have never read the books, Bubba is the undead King (not of all vampires), but of rock music. That’s right – he’s a vampire Elvis Presley. Not only that, he is also brain-dead and used as a lackey for all other vampires. So, who could play such a character?
Well, the good folks at IGN had a few suggestions:
Ball expressed his love for the character but then said he was hesitant to bring Bubba to the screen because he might not translate well … Then, almost immediately, came the shouts (by me, and three other guys) – “BRUCE CAMPBELL!”
“Who?” Ball asked, not being able to hear us. And then the hundreds of people started yelling “BRUCE CAMPBELL!” It was glorious. Because for those of you who’ve seen Campbell’s aged Elvis in the film Bubba Ho-Tep know that he’s capable of pulling off an understated, earnest portrayal of “The King.”
“Bruce Campbell, huh?” Alan Ball smiled. Make it happen, Ball. The masses have spoken.
Seriously. Do it. It would be amazing, as well as create so much buzz within the horror industry, and introduce his legion of fans to True Blood.
Should Bubba be introduced into the TV series? And if so, would you agree with Bruce Campbell?
