Ahoy bastards! Since we know your appetite for Captain America: The First Avenger news is insatiable we’ve got two brief tidbits to hold you over.
Last week at Comic-Con during the Captain America panel it was mentioned that the story’s antagonist Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving works for both the Nazi party and the HYDRA organization. The latter being a powerful fraternity dedicated to global domination. Their organization takes its name from the many-headed serpent-like monster known for its ability to grow two heads immediately to replace any head that was severed. Hydra prides itself on its ability to regroup and rebuild itself, allegedly mightier than before, after any major defeat.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director of the film Joe Johnston held up his phone (pictured above), which is adorned the Hydra logo. Any comic nerd can tell you that the logo looks almost exactly like the organizations emblem from the comics.
To what capacity will HYDRA have in Captain America: The First Avenger? We don’t know. Though, we can tell you that the terrorist groups founder Baron Von Strucker was commander of Hitlers Death’s Head Squadron. Beyond that there is not much early history between Captain America and HYDRA, at least not directly. Most likely the logo and the group itself will get a brief acknowledgment to establish Marvels history, and perhaps be a prelude for future movies. HYDRA is the prime enemy of S.H.I.E.L.D, the secret government defense agency. With S.H.I.E.L.D having a significant presence in previous and upcoming Marvel flicks it’s a fair bet HYDRA will rearing their ugly head in ‘The Avengers‘. The film to rule them all.
In other news. Stan Lee is apparently ready for a villainous cameo. It’s been a running gag for the father Marvels biggest and best superheroes to make a cameo in the Marvel films. He’s always played a good guy, but now he’s ready to go to the dark side. Here is what Stan ‘The Man’ had to say in an interview with MTV.
Every movie producer realizes that the only reason people go to the movie is to see my cameo, so they dare not omit it.
Lee just finished shooting his cameo role in the upcoming Thor movie, and hes ready to do his Captain America cameo when it is ready for him.
I really don’t have time to go to England, but I think they might shoot some scenes here, so I’ll get a chance to be in that one, too.
I really don’t know [which character I’ll play in Captain America], because I don’t know the script…[But] instead of always making me such a wonderful person, which I really I am, I wish they’d make me a villain, so I can exercise my acting chops.
