Back in the 1980s, there was an icon with big hair, colossal cleavage and wicked sense of humor. I am of course referring to Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. See back then there were a few late night horror shows which presented, cheap, painfully bad horror movies. ‘Elvira’s Movie Macabre’ was by far the best. Not because it’s horror features were any better, but because it was hosted by the quirky,/quick witted, impossibly busty, vampish Elvira. A pale girl, with dark hair, Gothic garb with a funny personality and a huge rack. Gee, is there any wonder on why she is one of the most original and outrageous characters in pop culture?
If you were not a child of the 80’s and or missed out on the cultural phenomenon, don’t fret. Elvira is returning to television. The self-proclaimed Mistress of the Dark will once again bring on the boob tube with a cavalcade of class and classically bad horror films. Tentatively titled “Elvira’s Movie Macabre”, the show will run for two hours once a week and be on THIS! Television as well as in national syndication throughout US courtesy of Trifecta Entertainment & Media.
“Elvira’s Movie Macabre” has most of its movies chosen for its first season. Elvira said she is trying for the rights to “The House on Haunted Hill” and “Plan 9 from Outer Space” but has lined up old favorites like “Manos, the Hands of Fate,” “Teenagers from Outer Space,” and “Werewolf of Washington.”
This is awesome. It’s like an adolescent dream come true! I blame Elvira from my predilection towards girls with dyed black hair. Casandra Peterson (Elvira) may be 59 years old, but good god is she as f*ckable as ever.
Elvira returns to TV the weekend of September 25.
