Oi, sometimes I really hate the internet. The goddamn rumors! Leave it to some asshat to say something like “Natalie Portman will be Lois Lane in the Superman reboot” and the whole internet blows up. Which, if I was just your average internet news reader I wouldn’t mind, but because I’m a nerd bastard I have to break away from my afternoon porn viewing to write about it.
So, what’s this Natalie Portman business? Well, yesterday news broke that Darren Aronofksy (I pray for the day that I don’t have to double check the spelling of his last name) is being considered to direct the new Superman reboot being planned by Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan. Last we heard the project had a short list of directors including Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles), Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), Tony Scott (True Romance, Unstoppable), and Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300). Then, all of a sudden Aronofsky’s name got thrown in that mix. All of this, of course is neither confirmed or denied. Just, talk around the insider interwebs. Now, with Aronofsky’s name being dropped, what does the internet do? It does the inevitable. It links Natalie Portman to Superman.
This rumor actually came from movie news site from Moviehole, which reports that one member of the Black Swan production team says that Aronofsky has been talking about Superman for some time, and that Warner Bros. wanted Portman for Lois Lane when Bryan Singer’s film was being assembled, and thinks that with Aronofsky on board to direct she would say yes.
Again, with no official word from Warner Bros. you can chalk this up to “shit you heard from your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate”, or rather “Shit nerds wish would happen”.
Nerds of course would love to see Portman take on this role. She’s a brilliant actress and HAWT! She could certainly play a good Lois Lane. Am I right in that assessment? Would you like to see Natalie Portman as Lois Lane? My vote goes to Tina Fey, but that’s just me.
