WONDER WOMAN is Getting a New TV Series

I’d first like to start off this post by saying that Wonder Woman sucks.  She’s got a magic lasso that makes people tell the truth, is an Amazon, is made from clay, likes to wear short skirts, flies an invisible plane, and wears a beauty pageant tierra. OK, maybe that’s a bit unfair. There is an equal amount of hokey-ness in all of comics A-List characters. Really, though it’s her quality of character that’s the problem. She doesn’t have great villains, she doesn’t have any memorable solo storylines and she just isn’t interesting. She’s nothing but an extremely angry underwear model (let the hate mail commence).

This is exactly why we don’t have a real Wonder Woman movie as well, even after all this time. Joss Whedon wanted to give us one. He wanted to take the character to new levels. Break ground and chance out of the old mythos and give us a WW with solid character, true heart and put some ‘meat on the bones’ so to speak.

Joss would have changed the character’s appearance in look and costume, and brought her up against a worthy adversary. A win-win situation for all of us to enjoy. Since DC wanted none of that, the project was shelved. Buttholes.

Oi, I should probably save my Joss Whedon Wonder Woman rant for another day.

While a WW movie is probably not going to happen anytime this decade, DC and Warner Bros. are bringing her back to TV first.

Deadline report that DC/WB have a new show in the pipeline, with David E Kelly(Ally McBeal) on board to write and produce. According to them..

Details on the reboot are being kept under wraps and it is not clear if the new Wonder Woman aka Diana Prince will keep her signature powers and weapons, including her Lasso of Truth, her indestructible bracelets, her tiara and her invisible airplane. In the comic books, the Wonder Woman character has evolved significantly since she first appeared in a 1941 issue of All Star Comics and recently underwent a controversial makeover.

Eh, looks like we just found the show that will possibly replace Smallville when its over.

To tell you the truth there’s huge potential in this. Despite my feelings towards Wonder Woman she is a power icon and her appeal crosses generations and eras. If they could get a TV show on WW right it would appeal to the same audience as Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Do you want to see another Wonder Woman TV show? Who do you think should play her?
