J.K. Rowling Talks More Harry Potter Books

While J.K Rowling has mentioned before that she could defintely see herself writing another Harry Potter book one day, but no time soon.  On the Oprah show Friday she had a lot more to say:

“I could definitely write an eighth, ninth, tenth.  I’m not going to say I won’t. I don’t think I will … I feel I am done, but you never know.”

It sounds to me like Rowling is just spouting bullshit. Personally, with all the hype and excitement around the last film being released in an epic two part conclusion, it seems like a poor idea to say that there will “potentially” be more books.  Part of the joy of the experience is being taken away from us.   Knowing that something we think is ending we’re so emotionally invested in makes it feel cheap for Rowling to just say, “Okay, here’s some more”.  Is Rowling just being a money grubbing witch or would there be some real value and validity in continuing the series?  My only concern is that people would be tired of the franchise and exhausted of having it shoved down their throats.  I mean it has a theme park, come on man!  Check out Rowling on Oprah after the jump.

I don't think it's fair to call her a witch or to say that she is making the experience cheap, because that just isn't the case. She's not promising anything either way; she's merely stating that if she feels she can go back to it and write more, then she will. She has material, and has had it, since even before she starting writing the books, and she's told fans before that if she feels she is up to it and feels the time is right, she might be writing prequels. I truly don't believe it's about the money for her; she genuinely loves the characters, loves the stories that she's created, and loves her fans. She is the only author I know that has said she encourages fans to write fanfics and take the characters she has given us so we can explore their world all the more deeper and create it as we would have it using the basis she gave us.

Personally, I hope she creates more and I don't feel that her doing so cheapens any movie experience. Yes, it may make way for more movies and merchandise in the future, but let's be honest, she doesn't have control over that, WB does.

Hey man, Is there something malfunctioning with your blog or with my web browser? I keep clicking on the subscribe button and I get some strange code from the web browser. The feed content shows many strange characters and it looks messy. Maybe it’s from the new module I set up to get the subscription feeds into a custom way. Funny, never the less.
