Another day and another Ghostbusters 3 rumor pops up. Production Weekly tweeted that they heard that Sony Pictures is planning to put the third film in production in May of 2011. While nothing has been officialy announced, this does go along with past rumors that something might be announced this month about Ghostbusters 3.

As far as what we know about the film, Ivan Reitman is back to direct the film. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis is working on a rewrite of the script that was written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Year One). As far as casting goes, we’ll see Aykroyd, Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver back with Rick Moranis, who retire from acting, possibly appearing as well.

As much as I would like to see a third film, all these rumors and talk about it has been getting a too much and to be honest, the 2009 Ghostbusters video game was my third film. If this does end up being true, then all I hope is that it encourages a younger generation to get into the franchise. What do y’all think? You think this is just a new rumor that is giving out false hope or do you think we’ll finally be able to see once again why busting makes folks feel good?
