Everyone loves War Machine, right? He’s like Iron Man except he kicks more ass, has bigger guns and doesn’t have a drinking problem. So it makes sense he should get his own movie, right? Well there seems to be talks of just that.
Before I get to the reporting here, do I need to pause and explain who War Machine is for you none comic-book fans. (*sigh) War Machine is the black mans Iron Man. To be specific, War Machine is the mechanized super-hero identity of Colonel James Rhodes. Rhodes is best buds with the original Iron Man, Tony Stark. He was played by Terrence Howard in film one, now Don Cheadle has the role. OK, you good?
With Iron Man 3 in the works and with The Avengers on it’s way there could be an option of doing a spin-off film, and according to Dustin Rowles of Pajiba.com it looks like Marvel might be toying with that very idea.
Here’s what Dustin said on his twitter feed:
It may be denied if reported, but don’t be surprised if you hear about a War Machine spin-off soon. Pitch is out to writers
Yep, I know what you’re thinking. We’ve stooped so low that we’re now reporting rumors based off some guys Twitter update. I tell you that we do not take this report seriously, nor are we really considering it news. With that being said let’s assume that on the success of Iron Man 3 and The Avengers it is likely that Marvel will want to explore stand-alone films to the characters they have established. Being that every studio has that “what’s next” state of mind it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to think they might be pitching ideas early in the game. War Machine is a strong character amongst the comic-book fan-base and being that there is a lack of ethnic super-hero films the possibility of the character getting his own flick could in fact be a distinct possibility.
Will War Machine get his own film? Only time will tell, but don’t be surprised if he does.
