In what could be called by some as a pure money grab from the success of the CW’s Smallville television series Warner Bros. is rumored to be turning to the Dark Knight. Comic Book Movie has claimed the Batman series will be headed to the small screen after Director Chris Nolan has completed the third Batman movie.,The Dark Knight Rises, in 2012. That’s not even the most intriguing part of the news, the studio already has their collective eyes on a lead. Actor Karl Urban (Star Trek, Red) is being eyed as Gotham City’s Cape Crusader. Given his chiseled good looks and nerd notoriety (Lord of the Rings, and the upcoming Judge Dredd remake) it’s easy to see why.
With the Superman Smallville series lasting an outstanding 10-years it’s easy to transition into a dark tone, with people ready to watch for a Bat signal. An entire plethora of DC’s universe was introduced thanks to CW constant renewing of the series over and over. From the introduction to the Justice League (Green Arrow, Cyborg, Aquaman) to classic villains like Toyman and Bizarro Superman. They even flashed us the Wonder Twins for an episode. While the original release, seen here , feels like it’s a complete 10 on the bullshit meter it may become a reality one day. We could even see the Joker reintroduced to a younger audience.
“…they believe that the Joker alone will garner ratings through the roof and are already planning on a closed set with extremely tight security to prevent any leaked footage.”
A new joker, while an insane option, could turn out to be a deal breaker. With the yin to Batman’s yang the show wouldn’t feel right. It was also stated that this Joker would be a new version, in no way disrespecting the role now iconic to Heath Ledger.
Remember, this is only a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt. Don’t start writing to WB with demands that Two-Face or Poison Ivy should be involved. All you’ll be doing is wasting trees.
