So last week, we all got the news that Mark Wahlberg will be playing the role of Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie and fans were pretty much upset by that news (in which I was okay with). Well, get ready for the whole “Hollywood ruins everything train” as we got director/writer David O’ Russell (The Fighter, I Heart Huckabees) giving some info about the plot while talking to the LA Times.

“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiques,” he says, “[a family] that deals with the heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice.” “We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now,” he continues. “And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea for me.”

Yeah… what does this have to do with Uncharted again? Why is Sony letting this happen?!? Geez, I know that video game based movies aren’t always the best but damn it this is just not right. Uncharted had nothing to do with families, it was more about watching Drake going through an adventure and getting himself out of whatever trouble he ends up in.

What do y’all think? Am I over reacting? You think O’ Russell can get the job done or was this project doom from the start?
