So what do 25 pounds of muscle, Hugh Jackman and Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, Black Swan) have in common? Well if you guessed Wolverine than you’d be right! The critically acclaimed director has his mind set on The Wolverine as his next project, to hopefully be due out in 2012.
Aronofsky has a clear vision of what he wants for his version of the X-Men hero. That includes Jackman having to put on 25 pounds of muscle, which is the most he’s ever had to do for the role. Jackman seems pretty stoked about the project and working with Aronofsky and had this to say to Entertainment Weekly,
He’s a visionary. I’ve been trying to get Darren since X-Men 3, really. We’ve been talking about this and Wolverine for so long.
Jackman goes on to say,
…we had a meeting about three weeks ago, catching up as friends more than anything, and he just ran a few ideas by me and my eyes just lit up, because already I think this is like a whole new ballgame – just the ideas, the level of depth, and intelligence, and creativity. I think he’s been waiting so long to do a movie in this genre. When he found the script, he said this is it. It’s really exciting.
So do you guys think that Aronofsky’s vision will pan out? Will a more jacked Hugh Jackman make for a better Wolverine movie? Probably not. To tell you the truth, I actually hate that Jackman will be reprising the role. In my opinion he makes for a terrible Wolverine. See, the character of Wolverine is that of a feral beast trying desperately hard to find his humanity. Jackman plays it the other way around, a man trying to be a beast. That, and he’s too much of a pretty boy. Regardless, if Aronofsky’s impressive resume is any indications than I most certainly think it will help.
