So…this teaser trailer for Griff the Invisible is a joke right? Like one of those horrendous spoof movies like Meet the Spartans. Nope, apparently it’s just that bad. Which is a damn shame too because I love it’s star Ryan Kwanten from HBO’s hit show True Blood. While the role as the likable dim wit isn’t much of a stretch for Kwanten the film definitely seems to be lacking something… like a creative concept. Griff looks like any other super-hero movie but with a tagline that reads like a Hallmark card “The Greatest Superpower is Love” it looks even worse than Batman with George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell.
Hopefully, the teaser trailer from indie Austrailan director, Leon Ford isn’t doing the film justice and there is more to this than what meets the eye. Kwanten plays Griff, “a meek office worker by day, but at night he turns into a crime-fighting superhero”. Ok, maybe not. However, what gets me is the fact the stars of the film don’t want to make the fact that they are in this this thing “invisible”. Kwanten and co-star Maeve Dermody both had great things to say about the script. Kwanten was so adamant about getting the role that at the end of his audition tape he shares that,
“I really just wanted to say ‘f**k guys, believe me I can do this. I am right for this’.”
Furthermore Dermody commented on her love for her character,
“I just adore her, and in the same way I just read it and went, ‘I completely need to be near this and be inside it,
I don’t think I’ll ever let it go now, really. I refuse to.”
Wow, all I can say there must be something I’m missing about this “project from down under”. What do you guys think? Check out the teaser trailer after the jump!
