Avengers

Did y’all hear about those villain rumors for Joss Whedon‘s ‘Avengers’ that popped up on the net the last couple of days? Or,  were you too busy sucking on left over candy canes and unboxing the last of your Holiday gifts? Or, maybe you were just doing much better things than paying attention to rumors? If you’re a bit out of the loop, basically Ain’t It Cool news stumbled across an interesting newspaper article in the Albuquerque Journal which stated that, “…the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree,”. Aliens. Cool, huh? Well not so fast. It’s bullshit… well maybe, I dunno. The guys over at SuperHeroHype have done a little digging and confirmed that this statement was nothing more than the newspapers own research rather than information they’d learned directly from Marvel who recently confirmed that they would film there.

SuperheroHype has confirmed that the information published in the Albuquerque Journal was not officially released through Marvel Studios and can instead be attributed to a research error on the part of the newspaper.

While this does not preclude the film from featuring the Kree or the Skrull, there is no hard evidence to date to suggest their inclusion.

So as you can see it’s not total bullshit. Just ’cause it was mis-reported doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Of course, if you think  this out it is probably unlikely. This flick will focus on the formation of the Avengers, them coming together. There is a lot of ground to cover before introducing an intergalactic war. Shit like:

-Nick Fury allowing Tony Stark to become part of the team.
Finding Captain America in the ice and reintroducing him to the present day
Thor becoming part of the team
Continuing Bruce Banner’s story from The Incredible Hulk
-A proper introduction for S.H.I.E.L.D as a whole, and the Helicarrier

And a number of other things. It’s just too goddamn overcrowded to go into the Kree and Skrull history. You don’t bust right outta the gates with that shit. Ya gotta give it some build up time to make it work. Like a set-up for a sequel maybe, but not right away. Besides, everyone from Joss Whedon to stars like Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo have hinted at them following the classic Avengers vs. Hulk/Loki storyline.

Whats your opinion? We’ve been hearing Skrull/Kree rumors for a while now. Do you want it to be true? Can it work? Tell us your thoughts… like seriously have at thee.

The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012 and stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson.
