Recent birthday boy (ripe age of 86. Fuck this guy was old when I was born.) Stan “The Man” Lee (Creator of Spider-Man, The Hulk, The X-Men…etc) has been informed he will be honored as the 2,428th star on Hollywood’s walk of fame for his contributions to television and film. Normally, the “walk of fame” only honors submissions from the categories of pop art that include: motion pictures, television, audio recording, radio and live theater. Hmm, I guess all those Marvel movie cameos finally paid off, right Stan? Seriously though, the reason Stan is getting a star is because of the impact he has had on pop culture. He is more than a comicer, he is an Icon.

From the Walk of fame press release:

In 1981 Stan Lee transformed his Spider-Man and Hulk creations into Saturday morning and syndicated television cartoons. When Marvel Comics and Marvel Productions were acquired by New World Entertainment in 1986, Stan’s horizons expanded even further, giving him the opportunity to become more deeply involved in the creation and development of filmed projects for both the big and small screen. He supervised such diverse animated series as X-Men, Spider-Man and The Hulk. To date, Stan’s characters have populated over 24 separate television series, all of which continue in syndication around the world

The event will be hosted by Leron Gubler, the CEO/President of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the notable guest speakers such as Gill Champion of POW!, Stan’s multi-media company and Todd “Spawn” McFarlane are expected to present. This is a day that Stan will be milking his nickname “The Man” till it runs dry, then it’ll be reincarnated as a new comic book character.

If you happen to be in Hollywood on Tuesday at 11.30 AM outside the Live Nation Building at 7072 Hollywood Boulevard then you’ll be seeing history, for the 2,428th time but a first for comic books.
