Last time we got any news about the upcoming Godzilla flick from Legendary Pictures was back in March. It was pretty much an announcement piece and to assure fans that it won’t be like the 1998 American film, which is good news (sorry pops, it’s not that great).

Here we are in 2011 and we got an update as it seems Legendary Pictures has found a director, Gareth Edwards. Edwards is known for his indie sci-fi flick Monsters, which may be the reason why he got offer the project. With this news, they will be moving the project forward so that it could still be released for a 2012 release date, which will be 2 year shy of the 60th anniversary of the King of Monsters.

2004 was the last time we saw a release of a new Godzilla flick and it wasn’t that bad since Godzilla: Final Wars did have cameos of a lot of Godzilla’s buddies and a showdown with Zilla (TOHO’s official name for the American made Godzilla), which is pictured above. What do y’all think of the news? Are you excited for a new Godzilla film or do you think Hollywood should stop before we have another film like the ’98 version.
