It’s been a super kind of week. Superbowl and super heroes.

While I’m battling a super case of the shits, brought on by some tainted nachos, there is another stink in the air. Two in fact. A possible appearance of the ‘The Boy Wonder’ in Chris Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and a Bollywood actor (who seems to hate America) won’t villain up as the Protogoblin in Marc Webb’s ‘Spider-Man’ reboot.

Starting with the curry goblin news. Indian actor Irrfan Khan has in fact been cast in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Reports put him in the role of Nels Van Atter. According to Marvel lore, he is the evil Proto-Goblin, a research assistant to Mendel Stromm and employee of Norman Osborne (aka The Green Goblin). He was used in the conducting of high-tech experiments, and served as a test subject for a chemical that was developed by Osborne and Stromm, which turned him into a red beast with fangs and claws.
PROTO
Well, the following excerpt from an interview he did with Indian Express seems to debunk any possibility that we’ll see him transform into the monsterous villain at any point in the upcoming movie!

While he is looking forward to Spiderman, the 48-year-old confesses, that initially he wasn’t keen on the project. “I didn’t want to be part of this violent American fantasy. But both my sons were excited and kept insisting that I take it up.” But the intricacy and freshness of the script finally won. Even then, Irrfan placed one condition before Webber — he didn’t want to be a masked villain or become another creature. Spiderman’s schedule in Los Angeles will follow his March shoot for Life of Pi in Taiwan

Did he just call Spider-man a “violent American fantasy”? Wow, what a douche.

No proto-goblin? Couldn’t really care less if they don’t include proto-goblin. In fact, I’m a bit relieved. Stupid character that has zero prominence in the Spider-Man universe.

Now, about this hootenanny in regards to ‘Robin’ appearing in ‘The Dark Knight’. First, let it be known that director Christopher Nolan has been pretty adamant about Batman’s sidekick NOT emerging in any of his bat films. Even Christian Bale said he would “refuse to go to work” if the character appeared in one of the movies (I’m too lazy to insert quotes. Just look em’ up). But, a report from a Michigan NBC affiliate might now suggest otherwise. According to reports, location scouts for The Dark Knight Rises were in Grand Ledge, MI recently and were looking at a water treatment plant to possibly be used as “a hideout for Batman’s sidekick Robin.”

Ain’t It Cool News for coming across the report from WILX.com in Michigan. Here’s what the original report said.

According to Eaton County and Grand Ledge officials who didn’t want to be identified due to confidentiality agreements, production crews from “The Dark Knight Rises” scouted locations in Grand Ledge’s Fitzgerald Park last week.

They looked at the Ledges as well as a water treatment plant located inside the park. Sources say the area is being considered as a hideout for Batman sidekick Robin.

I’m certainly taking this rumor with a grain of salt. However, with the recent addition of Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a role unknown, his boyish looks do make me ‘wonder’ (about him possibly playing Robin. That wasn’t homo freudian slip or anything). Why I don’t buy into it, because these films follow a young Batman, his early days. Robin, I would assume hasn’t even fallin out of his acrobatic mothers vagina yet. Plus this is supposed to wrap up Batman’s story, is there really room for a sidekick now? Chances are this bit of news was taken out of context and or Michigan officials were not accurately conveying what was said to them.
