Now before you start trashing message boards and going on an internet rage streak this isn’t a last minute change to the Green Lantern movie. It’s too late for that now and Ryan Reynolds looks way better as Hal Jordan any how. Nathan Fillion will be Hal Jordan, but only as part of the next Green Lantern animated feature, the highly anticipated Green Lantern: Emerald Nights. The Captain of the Firefly putting down the space cowboy suit and putting on the emerald ring, now that’s going to be awesome.
In Green Lantern: Emerald Nights Fillion will take the reigns as Hal Jordan training new recruit Arisia, voiced by Elisabeth Moss of Mad Men fame. This won’t be a full length feature as the film is a bunch of shorts, in the style of Batman: Gotham Knight. Each one will will be a different story and animation style. As for who else will be in it, it can be confirmed that Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter series), Kelly Hu (X2, The Vampire Diaries), wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and singer/actor Henry Rollins. As for his role in Emerald Nights, Fillion commented “I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator. Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern.”
Green Lantern: Emerald Nights, is due out on DVD on June 7th from Warner Animation.
For the bastards out there think Nathan Fillion should have been cast as Hal Jordan, take a look at this old fan-made trailer. It’ll be the only time you’ll get a proper Fillion/Lantern fix.
It’s been a while since I viewed that trailer and, Holy spit! , I forgot how awesome it was. It actually looks just as good the official trailer with Ryan Reynolds. Excitement shudders down my spine a bit more too.
