Holy crap, the Wonder Woman series just might be good after all! With the recent announcement that McG won’t be doing the project, which I’m sure relieves many of you who thought he would just crap all over it, Jeffrey Reiner is now set to direct the series. The new Wonder Woman series by David E. Kelley is about the modern day woman who who attempts to balance her ordinary life with her extraordinary one (so basically a less geeky Superman)…
Jeffrey Reiner is finalizing a deal to direct the NBC drama pilot Wonder Woman, David E. Kelley’s reimagening of the iconic D.C. comic. In the reboot, from Warner Bros. TV, Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. The project was a late spec buy by NBC made by new chief Bob Greenblatt late last month.
What I like about Reiner being attached to the project is that being a part of such shows like Friday Night Lights, Trauma, Caprica and The Event is that he knows how to do great drama. Because of this we can expect well crafted, engaging scenes. Unfortunately, for this same reason I worry that Reiner will have trouble catching that cheesiness that comes along with these type of Superhero shows.
Hopefully we’ll get a good Wonder Woman that will really carry the series and the combination of the two will make for a great pairing. What do you guys think of this shift in directors?
