And it’s a thrilling shot of him sitting at a computer, typing. Awesome! Okay, I am actually excited for this movie. I grew up watching the original Planet of the Apes and was obsessed with Roddy McDowell’s portrayal of the scientist Cornelius and later Caesar in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The man played an engaging ape.
Incidentally the new Apes film will focus on, Caesar the first intelligent ape created by Franco’s character. The film’s plot is as follows,
RISE OF THE APES is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
The role of Caesar is being played by Andy Serkis in motion capturing, full-blown CGI. The apes will be handled by WETA Digital and will be using much of the same technology developed for Avatar. On one hand I’m really excited for Serkis, his acting for Gollum and the amazing animation job make that character so real, so believable I know they’ll bring that quality to Caesar. But I’m going to miss the great make-up and costume work of the apes of old. With their flappy mouths and emotive eyes. I loved it.
Rise of the Apes will be directed by Rupert Wyatt and is expected to be released in November. Keep you’re eyes peeled for a trailer, maybe in front of a summer blockbuster like X-Men: First Class.
