Well, virtual time and space anyway. Announced yesterday the game titled, Doctor Who: Worlds in Time will be a free to play, online, multi-player game allowing players to work with the Doctor to save civilization. Man, if this game can deliver on that experience this could be the best news ever for Doctor Who fans. I don’t know anybody whose followed the adventures (and misadventures) of the Time Lord and not wondered what it would be like to be his companion. The risks, the puzzles, the excitement! Especially the risks, it’ll be nice to experience this in the safety of a video game. I don’t fancy dying on an unknown world years and years in the future. I don’t know, maybe it would be an epic death, but I’ll let someone else try it out first.

The game is being developed by BBC Worldwide in partnership with Three Rings, best known for the game Puzzle Pirates, and if you happen to be a game engineer located in the Madison, WI area they may have need of you. This job posting went live today.

Hmm, an MMO based around the world of Doctor Who. They’ve got plenty of history to pull from, that’s for sure. I wonder if you’ll be able to interact with any of the Doctors, or only the current incarnation Matt Smith. If not they’d be missing a great opportunity to show young viewers what a crotchety, old bastard the Doctor used to be.

The official press release is after the jump.
