Not like that. Well, actually, that’s probably exactly the kind excitement Graham King is hoping to stir up. If I remember correctly it’s not her tomb raiding skills which give Lara Croft her international video game fame. King’s company, GK Films (The Tourist) is planning a reboot of the Tomb Raider film franchise in 2013. Their press release states, “the films will create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.”

Young? Methinks we won’t be seeing Angelina Jolie suit up in the iconic tank top and short shorts again. Not that I’m calling Jolie an old hag, but let’s be honest, she has surpassed playing Lara Croft and at this point in her career a role in a video game adaptation is below her. /Film is predicting we’ll be seeing a younger, cheaper actress in the role and I’m sure they’re right. To make a successful Tomb Raider film you need one part action and one part hot chick. Bonus if your hot chick can act (see Angelina Jolie) and if you’re action is exciting, not laughable.

The new films, yes films, will be prequels for Croft and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a timely release of a prequel video game. No director or writer has been attached to this product so very little is known as to what direction the film will take. Keep tuning in for more news and in the meantime revisit the caves and ruins with the sexy archeologist, she’ll never leave you.

Who would you like to play Laura Croft in the reboot:
  • Summer Glau?
  • Emma Watson?
  • Mila Kunis?
  • Scarlett Johansson?
  • Olivia Wilde?
