Oh, the wonderful things you can find on the internet. Some brilliant YouTube user(s) crafted a trilogy of outstanding trailer mashups that place the adorable stars of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in Gotham City, ancient Sparta and even dreams within dreams.
First up, there’s “My Little Inception,” which keeps the ponies’ dialogue, but layers it over the haunting Hans Zimmer score from the original trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s Inception.
Pretty cool, right? The first thing you notice is the high quality and attention to detail. Most of the mashup makers that lurk around the net get pretty lazy with their sound syncing and even their basic editing, but this one is a surprisingly smooth job.

But it gets better. This time we remove the original dialogue and substitute both the Hans Zimmer score and the dialogue from a trailer for The Dark Knight. The end result: “The Rainbow Knight.”
Is that an excellent sync job or what? It actually makes sense. And you have to admit, it actually does look pretty badass seeing that blue pony zip around the sky ready to swoop down and save Gotham.
But I saved the best for last. “300 Ponies” takes all the sound and fury of the trailer for Zack Snyder’s 300 (Nine Inch Nails music and all) and puts it in the context of a battle to save a land of rainbows and magical hearts, which is actually pretty bitchin’.
The best part is that they took the time to put the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic titles up right after we hear Leonidas yelling “Give them nothing, but take from them…EVERYTHING!”
This give me hope for the future of mashups. Someone out there reading this: Please oh please make me a mashup of adorable cartoon ponies and Goodfellas. I’ll be your best friend.
