Marvel just released a new clip from Thor, this one documenting the moments immediately following Thor‘s fall to Earth after Odin, his father, banished him from the realm of Asgard (Not following this? Read more.).
After Thor (Chris Hemsworth) plops down in the middle of New Mexico, a team of scientists (played by Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings and the incomparable Stellan Skarsgard) stumble upon his body and are immediately confused when he asks “What realm is this?”
To be honest, though it’s brief, this clip doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence. Hemsworth sounds like he’s doing bad Shakespeare, Dennings is a little too snarky for her own good (this isn’t Mean Girls) and the way the clip ends is just…maybe irreverent is not the right word, but close (and not in a good way).
Most importantly, Thor himself doesn’t feel like a god in this clip. In all fairness, maybe that’s the point. After all, he has just been stripped of his Asgardian rank and his beloved hammer. Perhaps, in the context of a full film, it won’t seem so jarring.

Thor opens in theatres nationwide May 6.
