How do y’all feel about a remake of the cult classic film The Evil Dead? Typically, with remakes we like to wash our whiz and semen throw -ala ‘Silence of the Lambs’- at anyone foolish enough to attempt rehashing pop culture gold. Re-imaginings are insults through and through. However, this is Evil Dead were talking about. It’s campy, comedy-horror fair. Plus Evil Dead 2 was basically a remake of the first one. Essentially, I’m implying Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell launchpad film can be a welcomed exception. Especially if they’re the ones involved in the remake. Which they are. Going back to the well seems sillly and un-warranted. They should make a 3rd film instead. But, like I said, they already remade the movie once. They did it better the second time around. 3 times a charm, right?

The following quotes come from a Q & A session that Campbell was a part of on reddit.

We are remaking Evil Dead. The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milk man.

Milk Man? Ya, I dunno what that means, but I can almost certainly say he wont be returning as Ashley J. Williams. He’s old and fat now. Campbell continued saying,

In all honesty, we would all love to make another ‘Evil Dead’ movie. When that will happen? Who can say – we’re all working on other jobs right now. We’re not trying to dodge anybody’s questions, there just isn’t that much to talk about. The remake’s gonna kick ass—you have my word.

So, the script is “awesome” and the movie will be “kickass”. Those are promising words of encouragment, right? Of course this is coming from the a guy who thought The Man With The Screaming Brain was a good idea.

If anything, I think their sole purpose in pursuing this idea is to shut fans up. I know Bruce Campbell for one is sick of being constantly asked about a sequel/remake (he’s kind of a dick about it). Perhaps a less than stellar reattempt will leave fans angry enough to say “ok we’re done talking about this now”.

Regardless if a remake of Evil Dead is warranted or not, or whatever the creators intentions are, do you have any faith that Campbell and Raimi still got it? Can it be good?
