This bit of breaking news comes from the source who broke Kevin Costner being cast at Pa Kent, confirmed Lois Lane in the film and Zod as the villain. This is rumor, but a rumor you should pay lots of attention to. The word is the female villain in the film is Zod’s right hand lady and no it’s not Ursa…well kinda. Here’s the scoop from Comic Book Movie,
-You will see JOR-EL and his wife, Lara.
– Daniel Day-Lewis was looked at for JOR-EL and not the villain.
– Krypton will not be a crystal planet like the Donner film; this Krypton will PROBABLY look like the Coruscant skyline from Star Wars.
– The Kryptonian villainess is not URSA…Well sort of. The villainess is FAORA. I was also told that she is a bad ass in the script and that she is Zod’s “right hand [female dog].
Haha, female dog. Anyway, you can see what I mean by it’s not Ursa but at the same time it is. To most of the movie-going public Ursa and Faora would be indistinguishable. But we’re not the general public, are we? We’re obsessive nerds. Faora was the basis for the character of Ursa and why they needed to originally create Ursa I don’t know. Maybe they were trying to make a softer villainess, which sounds ridiculous. Especially once you read up on Faora and realize what scary bitch, err female dog, she is,
Faora Hu-Ul was a serial killer born on the planet Krypton. A self-professed “man-hater”, she targeted only male Kryptonians and ran a concentration camp where she kept other Kryptonians as slaves. Faora Hu-Ul claimed over twenty-three lives before she was arrested. Faora was sentenced to over three-hundred years of incarceration inside the Phantom Zone – the longest sentence ever handed to a female prisoner, and the second-longest sentence over all. As Faora was trapped inside the Phantom Zone, she, along with many others, survived the destruction of Krypton.
Faora was an expert at the Kryptonian martial art of Horo-Kanu, which utilized the pressure points on the Kryptonian body. This made her an extremely dangerous foe for Superman to face in hand-to-hand combat—he was forced to flee from their first encounter.
Now we can start the casting speculation! We already know Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod, who would you like to see be his right hand female dog? ::snicker::
