Well, that magical hour – the premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones – has come and gone. Now that you’ve all seen what I’ve seen, it’s time to talk about the thing.
I’ve said it more than once, and I’ll say it again here, the mere fact that the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were able to pull even a half-decent adaptation of the massive first novel in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series is an achievement in itself. But if you saw what I saw, you know that they did more than a half-decent job. Game of Thrones is not just a largely faithful visual adaptation of Martin’s prose. It’s the next step for fantasy on television, breaking new ground for decidedly grown-up tales of knights, kings, whores, bastards and darker things.
If you want to see the more articulated version of the praise I’ve already written for this series, be sure to check out my review of the first episode, “Winter is Coming,” right HERE at NerdBastards, as well as my “10 Reasons to Love Game of Thrones” right HERE.
But now it’s time for you to sound off the show, to let your standard fly, whether you’re a fan of Martin’s novels or just a fan of television. What did you think of “Winter is Coming?” Was it rough-edged enough for you? Were the performances solid? Who’s your favorite character so far? What about the sets, the music, the boobs? After months of anticipation, this show has made it out into the airwaves, so it’s time for we fantasy nerds to unite and let the thread flow free. Give us your comments!
