While I’m anxiously awaiting Martin Freeman as our favorite little hobbit adventurer, I’ll apparently get to see Ian Holm reprise the role as well, pure joy for this Tolkien nerd. Peter Jackson confirmed through his Facebook page, posting,
One comment that came up from the recent video blog was the Bilbo voice at the end—many of you assumed it was Sir Ian Holm. Whilst Ian will be returning as the older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, that recording was actually Martin Freeman’s voice, taken from a script read through we recorded when the cast first arrived. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure who it was when I first heard it, either. Cheers, Peter J
I’m guessing these scenes of an older Biblo played again by Holm will be somehow intertwined with scenes of Elijah Wood reprising Frodo. These scenes will most likely be book-ending The Hobbit tale, which will then serve as flashback. Everything we’re seeing from this production is screaming Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is going to be a very familar film, especially with Jackson back in the director’s chair. Everybody get ready to go back to Middle Earth, it’ll be just as we left it.
