Super Hero Round Up: ‘Thor’ Box Office Numbers; First Look at Rhys Ifans as Dr. Connors in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, ‘Avengers’ Budget and Set Pic
Here’s all the little Superhero bits that you should know about, but just don’t make a full post on their own. Let’s start with some ‘Thor’ Box Office numbers:
Thor (Marvel/Disney/Paramount) NEW [3,955 Theaters] Friday $25.7M, Saturday $23.5M, Weekend $66M International $176M, Global Cume $242M.
Whats all that gibberish? Well basically, Thor thundered into theaters with a $66 million dollar take at the box office. The film opened in just under 4,000 theaters, averaging about $16.8k per location. This makes Thor the second biggest opening of the year. $6.6 million (10% of the box office) of the take comes from the 213 IMAX. As you know, the movie Internationally two weeks ago. So far it has made $242 from overseas markets.
Reviews have been good(Have you read Nerds Bastards Luke Gallagher and Matthew Jackson‘s reviews?), and British Kenneth Branagh‘s direction and Aussie newcomer Chris Hemsworth in the title role of The Mighty Thor earned a 92% rating currently on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s a good start to Marvel’s summer movie bonanza.
Who thinks June’s X-men – First Class will top Thor’s first weekend numbers?
HIT THE JUMP for your first look at Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and some updates on ‘The Avengers’.
Sony’s reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man in Brooklyn, New York, leaked the latest set images which depict star Andrew Garfield and actor Rhys Ifans, whose portraying the one armed Dr. Curt Conners; The Lizard. So don’t worry, it’s not a new green gloved Hollywood fashion craze, it’s the green screen method to take out the hand.
Set pictures from the upcoming Avengers movie, which is currently filming for a May 4, 2012 release reveal . . . a hole in the wall. Looks like someone pissed off Bruce Banner, they probably didn’t like him when he got angry, they never do. These photos come from SuperHeroHype and they say:
These were taking in Albuquerque, NM where they are filming the Avengers movie aka GH aka Group Hug. They have leased the old Santa Fe rail yard. Cheers!
How much is Marvel spending on their super hero tentpole film anyway? Whats the budget? Well, Kristen Erwin, the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission executive director, (say that fast five times) stated that The Avengers has an estimated budget of $170 million with $30 million spent in Ohio alone.
Erwin also revealed that shooting in Ohio will last two weeks. She didn’t reveal an exact location, but did say that it would be within 30 miles of Cincinnati and that they’re “still negotiation a location agreement” with Marvel Studios. Cleveland and Southwestern Ohio will be the two main spots for filming of The Avengers.
So that’s no ‘Avatar’ budget by any means, but ‘Green Lantern’ had a budget of 150 million (with 9 million recently added so make that 159 million). $170 should be enough, right?
