Briefly, ’cause I’m running out to get myself some Tacos, NBC and ABC have released trailers and clips for their upcoming fairytale based shows. ABC’s (“abc,123, baby you and me!”) has got ‘Once Upon a Time’, which is apparently like ‘LOST’ but with folks in fairytale land instead of an island. NBC’s got ‘Grimm’. A cop drama but with fairytale characters.

  • ‘Once Upon a Time’ sounded good on paper, but the below clips killed any interest I had. It looks awful. ‘The Cape’ awful. Horrible acting and dialog. Beyond campy.
  • ‘Grimm’ was created by ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’ producers David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf. ‘Grimm’ fits the same mold as Buffy and Angel. Which, in my opinion is a good thing.
  • NBC will inevitably drop ‘Grimm’. It will find a home on The CW
  • ‘Grimm’s’ main character looks like Brandon Routh. Which means nothing. Just something I took notice to.
  • Both shows will significantly lessen the chance of us getting a live-action adaptation of the comic series ‘Fables’.

Watch both trailers after the jump. Feel free to leave your own commentary.

Trailer for Grimm

GRIMM

Once upon a crime.

Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Well, those weren’t stories, they were warnings.

Detective Nick Burkhardt thought he was ready for the grim reality of working homicide in Portland, Oregon. That is, until he started to see things… things he couldn’t quite explain. Like a gorgeous woman suddenly transforming into a hideous hag, or an average Joe turning into a vicious troll. Then, after a panicked visit from his only living relative, Nick discovers the truth about his visions: he’s not like everyone else, he’s a descendant of an elite group of hunters known as “Grimms” who are charged with stopping the proliferation of supernatural creatures in the world. And so begins his new life journey — albeit a reluctant one at first — as he solves crimes with his partner, who knows something about Nick has radically changed but can’t quite put his finger on it. Along the way, Nick finds himself unexpectedly getting help on some of the more difficult cases from Monroe, a guy who seems normal at first but is soon revealed to be what you might call a “big bad wolf.” Literally!

While the Brothers Grimm wrote fairy tales that children have adored for generations, imagine if the villains were real and Nick was the only one who could stop them.

From executive producers David Greenwalt (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Jim Kouf (Angel, National Treasure) comes a new world of police work where all cases have a storybook connection… but not always happily ever after.

Clips from Once Upon a Time

ONCE UPON A TIME

(Lost, Tron: Legacy) invite you to a bold new vision of the world where fairytales and the modern day are about to collide.

Anna Swan (Jennifer Morrison) knows how to take care of herself. She’s a 28-year old bail bonds collector who’s been on her own ever since she was abandoned as a baby. But when the son she gave up years ago finds her, everything will change. Henry (Jared Gilmore) is 10 years old now and in desperate need of Anna’s help. Henry believes that Anna actually comes from an alternate world… and is Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) and Snow White’s (Ginnifer Goodwin) missing daughter. According to his book of fairytales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen’s (Lana Parilla) curse, which trapped the fairytale world forever, frozen in time. Of course Anna doesn’t believe a word, but when she brings Henry back to Storybrooke, she finds herself drawn to this unusual boy and his strange New England town. Concerned for Henry, she decides to stay for a while, but she soon suspects that Storybrooke is more than it seems. It’s a place where magic has been forgotten, but is still powerfully close… where fairytale characters are alive, even though they don’t remember who they once were–including the Evil Queen who is now Henry’s foster mother. The epic battle for the future of all worlds is beginning, but for good to win, Anna will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell.

Brace yourself for a modern fable with thrilling twists and hints of darkness. Brimming with wonder, and filled with the magic of our most beloved fairytales, Once Upon A Time is a fitting follow up to Lost from two master storytellers.
