“They’re closer than you think.”
What the hell does that even mean? This is one of our first glimpses of the Muppets promoting their new film and I’m completely unimpressed. Okay, it’s a teaser poster, I shouldn’t be expecting a lot. I just wish I understood what that tagline was supposed to mean.
Are they geographically closer? Closer to what?! Are they closer as friends than in the past? Whatever. It’s dumb.
I’m excited to see the Muppets on the big screen again. I’m excited to see them in movie that doesn’t involved Gonzo being an alien. Judging by the title, simply, The Muppets, it should be a back to basics kind of tale. Here’s the film’s synopsis,
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
I love the idea of a telethon being held for the Muppets. Appropriate considering Jim Henson‘s long time associaction with PBS. The Muppets will star Jason Segel, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Walter.
