The Muppets are back! After his work in Forgetting Sarah Marshal, Jason Segel received the biggest honor any Muppets fan could ever dream of! He received approval to co-write, star, and produce the next Muppets movie. Speculations had circled around for months as to when we’d finally see this work, and it’s finally here. Walt Disney Pictures released a teaser trailer of The Muppets Movie, which was secretly titled “Green with Envy”, during last week’s theatrical release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Slash Film reported that Disney Execs didn’t release the online trailer until after opening week of the film because they believed, “ the trailer plays better in large audiences on the big screen.” I think that’s poppycock! People everywhere would have a hanging jaw and confused face at this trailer’s sneaky insert and promotion of the new movie.
It is a difficult to tell what the movie is about, but this trailer does catch viewers off guard and has lights a spark of hope for all things Muppets. It’s been 11 years since The Muppets last big screen feature film, and with Jason Segel’s show of witty and unique writing for his puppet show in Forgetting Sarah Marshal I think he can bring The Muppets into our era with a BANG! Check out the trailer, and tell us what your thoughts and comments are below. ‘Cause if you don’t, the ominous box will send Cookie Monster to your house and have him watch you while you sleep. (Trust me…that’s kind of creepy)
Official Movie Plot and release:
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011
