The Fright Night remake from Craig Gillespie is only months away, so consider this the first of many clips coming our way. It will be released in 3D and stars Colin Farrel, Anton Yelchin, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Toni Collete and will be released August 13th. I really hope this one lives up to the original, maybe with a little less camp. But it does need to be funny, which this clip and the trailer haven’t shown.
Here’s the film’s synopsis if you’re not familiar,
Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all—he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl in high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—and everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone that he’s telling the truth, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.
See, even the synopsis mentions comedy, so where’s the funny!?
This sneak peak features Jerry (Farrel), the vampire next door, giving a reality check to Charlie (Yelchin).
I don’t know if Farrel’s vamp can stand up to Chris Sarandon’s, but he does come off as really creepy, so win? Of course, we’re all waiting for some footage of Tennant as Peter Vincent. It’s completely different from Roddy McDowell’s role, but who cares, it’s David Tennant, as nerds we’re going to love him.
