E3 officially starts today and Nintendo is having their press conference first thing this morning over at the expo. Will Nintendo pull what they did last year and ride on nostalgia once again, or will they be bringing down the house by announcing a new console? Will Nintendo keep please the casual fans or will they win the old-school fans back today? Find out by clicking on the jump button. *Videos will be added once available. The conference starts off with an orchestra playing The Legend of Zelda medley  theme and a video showing footage from various of Zelda games. Shigeru Miyamoto is already up on stage with a translator. He talks how this year is the 25th year anniversary of Zelda and talks about as how Link and the music of the series has evolved. He mentions how the sound effects make an impact while we play. He has an orchestra play a few of them and then had them play the fairy theme.

This leads to Miyamoto announcing that The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awaking is available on the 3DS E-shop today and reminds folks that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D comes out next week. He also announced The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords will be a free download on DSiWare in September. Also, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be out this holiday season. And, there will be Zelda concerts happening around the world.

Next up is Satoru Iwata. He talked about how game playing has changed since the release of the Wii and the DS. Mentioning how the console determines how games are played and speaks how there is a rift between causal and (hard)core gamers. We are then shown video clips from games that will be appearing on the 3DS. Nothing new so far as we are shown Mario Kart, Star Fox, Super Mario, and Kid Icarus Uprising. Lastly, we see a clip of Luigi’s Mansion, so that’s new.

Reggie Fils-Aime is on stage now talking about how it’s hard to appeal for everyone, but the Nintendo 3DS will be the console that will do it. So the five clips that were shown before Reggie came on are the five key games that Nintendo will be selling. We start off with a Mario Kart 3DS trailer. The game will be available this holiday season. Next up is Star Fox 64 3D. and Reggie explains how moving the 3DS will be used for gameplay. The game will be out this September.

Reggie then talks how Mario has always been the system seller and that we will see a Super Mario game for the 3DS.  We are then shown a trailer and Reggie says that the game will be out before the end of this year. Reggie keeps it going talking about how fans were happy to find out that Kid Icarus: Uprising is coming out and we are shown another trailer.  The trailer at the end shows that there will be Kid Icarus augmented reality cards. The game will feature 3 on 3 mutli-player battles and the game is set for a release date later this year. Now we get to a trailer of Luigi’s Mansion 2 for the 3DS. The game will have more than one mansion as Reggie wants us to know it’s a full sequel.

We then go to a video montage of other 3DS games that are coming out, such as the two Resident Evil games, Tetris, Tekken, Metal Gear Solid 3, etc. Reggie talks about the 3DS E-shop and how we will be seeing classic Gameboy and Gameboy Color games. He also mentioned that we will be seeing 3D classic game, such as Excitebike (free for 30 days). He also mentions the Pokedex 3D is available as a downloadable app.

Finally Reggie talks about the new console and how they were thinking on what to name the title. He talks about how the name of the Wii (We) made sense and announces that then new console is named Wii U. He shows us the picture of the controller (which does have a screen in the middle!) We are then show a video of how the new controller will work and it’s pretty interesting. It certainly is a new way to play games. Iwata is back on stage and states that the Wii U will be backwards capable with Wii games and all it’s accessory and controllers. The console is in HD. Iwata announces that there will be a new Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and Wii U and that the two will have some sort of connectivity.

Reggie is back on stage and talks about how the Wii U will on the stage floor but no game are available, just prototypes of how the system can be used. Reggie then announces Super Mario Mii, basically you play as your Mii in a Super Mario game.

We then see a video with a bunch of developers, just like how the video with 3DS was set up and within this video the Wii U will have Assassin’s Creed: Revelation, Batman Arkham City, Darksiders II, Tekken, Dirt, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online, Metro: Last Light, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razors Edge.

Looks like Nintendo has third party support once again. EA comes out saying how their games will appear on the Wii U. The conference is over and one interesting note is that we don’t know if the Wii U is the controller or the console as they did not show any new console, just the controller.
