More Alternative Story Telling: Telltale Reveals ‘The Walking Dead’ Video Game Concept Art, Story Details
Were you one of the few fans who welcomed and encouraged the creative additions AMC made to the televised version of Robert Kirkman‘s zombie comic, The Walking Dead? (*note: show was amazing, I just wasn’t fond of the new shit) If new characters and new stores is something that tickles your nerd fancy, then I’m sure the upcoming Walking Dead video game from Telltale games will have you rubbing your nipples.
Telltale’s revealed new concept art depicting the game’s all-new protagonists who’ll adventure through a shared corner of the TWD world in a somewhat parallel narrative.
The game will follow Lee Everett, a criminal loosed from his police escort after it runs into an erstwhile zombie. Everett will unite with a seven-year-old girl named Clementine who Telltale says will provide a sort of moral compass for the convict.
As Rick Grimes tries to make his way into Atlanta, Lee and Clementine are trying to make their way out, which means they’ll cross paths with established series characters like Lilly and Glenn.
When the AMC series deviated from that story in significant ways, I felt like it was no longer The Walking Dead. With that said, I don’t think it is unfair to have other characters within this world and see what their stories are. I think a video game is a great medium in which explore a world where other stories occur. Am I being flippity floppity? I don’t think so. I just think the show should have stuck to the original narrative of the comic. Expectation from the established, know what I mean? Spin-offs are welcomed, provided they are marketed as such.
Anyway, with the game’s planned episodic nature it’s assumed that gameplay might mirror that of other Telltale releases like its Back to the Future games, although it’s still too early to tell. New details with will emerge as the fourth quarter release date shuffles along.
