Breaking NEWS: James Mangold is Fox’s choice to take over The Wolverine after Darren Aronofsky walked away months ago. The director has been offered the job, but hasn’t signed a deal yet. If matters proceed, The Wolverine should shoot this fall.
Will have more information as it rolls out. Keep checking back. FYI, Mangold is the director of such classic films like 3:10 to Yuma, Walk The Line and Copland. No Darren Aronofsky, but dudes got some chops. As far as we know, the Christopher McQuarrie script that Darren Aronofsky would have directed is still a go. It’s based on the classic Wolverine mini-series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller.
Will Mangold be the perfect corporate puppet, or will FOX give the veteran director free reign? FOX is notorious for controlling productions (and ruining them) but they did recently give Matthew Vaughn pretty much free reign with X-men: First Class. The mentality of trusting directing might carry on.
Regardless, Mangold might be an odd choice, but he’s clearly got the talent to pull it off. What say you?
