You watched J.J Abrams‘ epic Star Trek reboot with nothing but pure titillation (at least I did. Suck it haters) back in 2009 and your head exploded seeing Spock onscreen again. Sure, Zachary Quinto was a good replacement as the second in command Vulcan, but he was nothing compared to Leonard Nimoy, who reprised his iconic Sci-Fi role. As for his captain, all we got was a buffer and slightly prettier Captain Kirk, filled out by Chris Pine. Much to the chagrin of fans, we didn’t get a cameo of William Shatner. The Shat was reportedly more pissed off about it than we were (see clip). With the Star Trek Sequel coming in 2012 will we get to see real James T. Kirk hit the screen this time? In short…no.
The veteran actor and Canadian treasure, William Shatner made the announcement at this year’s Calgary Expo in Canada. In response to a fan’s question for having a possible cameo in Star Trek 2 Shatner replied:
I’ve become an acquaintance of J.J. [Abrams] of late … But, I’m afraid no, no, I will not be in Star Trek 2.
That just kicks you right in the tribbles doesn’t it? Don’t lose faith though. Production on the next Abrams’ project was pushed back from this summer to the fall, and the script is still in the process of being written so there’s still hope that he’ll get written in. The Shat slept with green space women, he’ll find a way to get involved somehow.
