Been wondering what rock James Cameron has been hiding under, and what he’s working on? Well wonder no more! He recently spoke to Fox News about his work on the Avatar sequels, and these are the little snippets from that interview.
Cameron on the story and production plans for the film:
“We’re shooting two films back-to-back, so I’m writing two scripts, not one, which will complete a free-film story arc – not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc so I’m pretty excited about that. We’re doing a lot of preliminary work right now on new software and new animation techniques and so on. We’re creating a new facility in Manhattan Beach so everybody that’s not already dead is coming back.”
Cameron on expectations for the next Avatar films to deliver more than the first:
“There’s always an expectation. I had to deal with that after ‘The Terminator’ back in 1984. All of a sudden I had a big hit movie and it was ‘what are you doing next?’ But my job is take the audience on a journey and entertain them,” he said. “The second I am sitting down writing, I just go to Pandora. I don’t think about that stuff, about standing on a red carpet. It has its own life, really. The characters have their own lives.”
Cameron plans for these sequels to be released in December of 2014 and 2015. If you think that the first film was gigantic, well he is planning for these sequels to be big enough to provide some jobs here in the States. Jon Landau has estimated that 700 prospective jobs are available with this planned trilogy. Avatar exploded the 3-D market by showing the beauty and details that make the world in the film feel real and relatable to the audience.
With how well the first film did I am looking forward to see what he can still pull out of the Pandora Universe. What are your thoughts on this expected sequel?
