As if you didn’t need another reason to watch the season four opener of Breaking Bad on AMC (sure, it’s not “geek” but it’s damn good television), the cable network has announced that fans of their blockbuster zombie apocalypse drama, The Walking Dead, will be able to get a sneak peak at the forthcoming second season at some point during the Breaking Bad premiere on Sunday July 17th. When it premiered last Halloween, The Walking Dead became an instant hit and was the most watched drama series in basic cable history among adults 18-49.
Not much is known about the second season of The Walking Dead, but the rumour is that most of the season will take place at Herschel’s Farm, a highly significant location to those familiar with the original comic book series created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Scott Wilson has been cast as Herschel Greene, along with Lauren Cohan as Maggie Greene, and character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince as Otis. Shooting on the second season began on June 1st, and is expected to premiere this coming Halloween on AMC. Executive Producer and showrunner Frank Darabont is guiding the new season, which will feature all of the first season’s survivors.
So what will we see in this sneak peak? AMC was less than forthcoming in its blog post. Perhaps some plot exposition? A bit of character interaction? A lot of zombie gore? Hopefully, it will be a bit more than recycled footage from season one.
And by all means, stick around for the whole episode of Breaking Bad, which stars Bryan Cranston as a high school chemistry teacher that starts manufacturing meth in order to secure the financial security of his family, only to inadvertently fall deeper into the New Mexico underworld. It will forever shatter the illusion of Cranston as Malcolm in the Middle’s dad.
