Scanners, the science-fiction classic from David Cronenberg looks to be headed to our minds by way of Dimension Films.
Now while Dimension had no involvement in the original 1981 or it’s very unappealing sequels they do know
money great television when they see it. The original plan was for a potential remake for the big screen, with David Goyer tapped to write two drafts, and Rene Malo, Clark Peterson and Pierre David signed as producers. That plan fell through as Goyer is no longer attached to what is now a dramatic series adaptation about a group of people with telepathic and telekinetic abilities. Writer-director Alexandre Aja has signed on to executive produce and potentially direct the pilot so everything isn’t lost as of yet.
According to insiders, it was Dimension principal Bob Weinstein and Aja who conceived of the plan to transform the Scanners property into a TV show. Malo, Peterson and David will remain attached as executive producers for the series and Dimension is already in talks with potential show runners to create and run the series. With hits like The Walking Dead making their transition from one medium to another with blockbuster success Scanners could very well be the feel good head explosion of the new year. Hopefully more then 237 people will watch this.
